Hain congratulates triumphant ladies rugby team

Neath MP Peter Hain has congratulated Neath Athletic Ladies rugby team following their Welsh Cup and League double. It is the second consecutive season that they have achieved the feat and the fourth time in six years that the side has won the cup.

Mr Hain congratulated the side, ‘Neath has such a proud tradition of rugby success and it is fantastic to see a women’s team to rival their male counterparts. Your triumphs over the last few years including back to back cup and league wins, four cup wins in six years, finalists on six occasions and producing Wales internationals have not only made you the most successful side but also a dominant force in Welsh rugby.’

Neath Athletic Ladies are the only side to have won the Welsh Cup and last season lifted the National 7s and Cwmtawe 7s crowns.

Speaking on the sides success Mr Hain said, ‘What they have achieved in the last six years is fantastic, they are really leading the way in women’s rugby’.

Hain Backs Supporters Trust

In a recent article for the Evening Post concerning developments at Neath Rugby Club, MP for Neath Peter Hain said:

“The Supporters Trust are lifelong fans of the club and have well-established names linked with them – absolutely genuine, upright people of real integrity like former Manager and Wales coach Ron Waldron.”

“All along they have been worried about the future of Neath RFC and are united in their desire to make Neath a great club again.  I hope that Mr. Hawkes can reconsider. It would be to his credit if he did so.”
